US supports Israeli assaults on Gaza
(MENAFN) Days after a deadly clash between Israeli forces and Palestinian militants in the blockaded enclave, US Ambassador to Israel Tom Nides stated that Washington fully supports the fight against "bad guys" in the Gaza strip.
Speaking to Israel’s Channel 13 for an interview, Nides asserted the US government is “aware of the situation going on in Gaza” and thinks the recent Israeli operations there last week were part of “an important mission.”
“These are bad guys,” the envoy continued, referring to Palestinian armed groups, highlighting that “We support Israel’s right to defend itself, its right to basically take the actions it needs to keep this place safe, so we’re fully supportive of Israel’s actions.”
The Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ), a militant group accused of firing rockets into Israel, was the main target of the Israel Defense Forces' (IDF) several days of attacks on Gaza that began last Friday. Local authorities claim that 44 Palestinians, including at least one child, were killed during the operations.
