Protesters Arrested Near Bandaranaike Statue At Galle Face

A group of protesters were arrested near the statue of the late S.W.R.D Bandaranaike at Galle Face today.
The Police arrested 4 protesters from near the S.W.R.D Bandaranaike statue.
They were produced before the Fort Magistrate and remanded till 29th July.
The Fort Police had informed the protesters that they were arrested on the basis that they violated a court order preventing people from gathering within a 50 meter radius of the statue.
Protesters at Galle Face said that the arrest was made despise their lawyers informing court that no harm will be done to the statue.
The Police had informed the protesters recently that a court order had been obtained preventing people from gathering within a 50 meter radius of the statue.
The court order was obtained following reports of attempts by some protesters to destroy the statue. (Colombo Gazette)
