'Fairy Godmothers' of Disney choose gender-neutral option

(MENAFN) Disney will phase out "fairy godmothers" in favor of more inclusive and gender-neutral names in dress-up stores around its theme parks, the company stated on Thursday in an update to the Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort websites.

Hairdressers and makeup artists at the Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutiques were given the title of "fairy godmother," which relates to the mythical figures seen in numerous of Disney's animated films. The salons provide children aged 3 to 12 with makeovers, converting them into Disney princesses or knights.

These individuals, who were formerly known as "fairy godmothers in training," will now simply be referred to as apprentices.

"This way, cast members that might not identify as female can still be part of the process to dress up & style the children without having to refer to themselves as a female Disney character," Disney stated in a ‘Streaming the Magic’ blog post.

However, it appears that not all Disney fans are thrilled with the shift, with some claiming that the business has once again bowed in to transgender activists' demands.
