Doha: Eid Al Adha, like Eid Al Fitr, is a joy for young and old alike in every country in the Islamic world from the east to the west. A day where honorable souls forget their greed, meet after separation, and clear up after grief to consolidate the bonds of brotherhood and love between relatives and neighbors.

In Qatar, as in the rest of the world, families prepare to receive the Eid in the most beautiful ways. The head of the family prepares to acquire the Eid sacrifice, investigating the Sunnah of our Noble Prophet Muhammad - peace be upon him - and to commemorate the memory of our prophet Ibrahim - peace be upon him which Allah mentioned in Surat As-Saffat (Then when the boy reached the age to work with him, Abraham said, 'O my dear son! I have seen in a dream that I must sacrifice you. So tell me what you think.' He replied, 'O my dear father! Do as you are commanded. Allah willing, you will find me steadfast * Then when they submitted to Allahs Will, and Abraham laid him on the side of his forehead for sacrifice * We called out to him, 'O Abraham * You have already fulfilled the vision.' Indeed, this is how We reward the good-doers * That was truly a revealing test * And We ransomed his son with a great sacrifice). After the test and the affliction has been completed, relief comes from Allah and our prophet Ismael - peace be upon him - is redeemed with a great slaughter. Ever since, the Sunnah of Sacrifice passed at Al Adha, as a memory of this great event that raises a beacon of the truth of faith, the beauty of obedience, and the greatness of submission, which teaches us to sacrifice in the cause of Allah all the precious and cheap of life, money and children, and thank the blessings of Allah.

The head of the family takes his children and family members either to cattle markets or to the farms (animal breeding barns) so that they all participate in the process of purchasing the sacrifice.

People of Qatar are still loyal to the customs and traditions of Eid Al Adha, in line with our true religion, despite the winds of civilization and modernity that have invaded everywhere in the world. However, in order to maintain the cleanliness of their homes and neighborhoods, and to contribute to the spreading of environmental culture, they go to the slaughterhouses provided by the concerned authorities, which provided specialized veterinarians and skilled manpower. They go with their children in a festive atmosphere to see their sacrifice, seeking reward, and they distribute its meat to relatives, friends, the poor and the needy, and some of them keep it for slaughter on the second or third days of Eid (the days of Tashreeq).

In this context, Atiq Al-Sulaiti, Heritage Researcher told Qatar News Agency (QNA) that in the past, when the head of the family made the intention to sacrifice on Eid Al Adha or the feast of the victim or victims, as it is said according to the Qatari dialect, he used to go to the market assigned for selling cattle and choose a sacrifice. When choosing a sacrifice (mostly sheep or goat) he chooses one which the conditions of the sacrifice apply. He checks it in terms of stout and makes sure it's not lean or old, its must be free from defects such as lameness or broken teeth/bones. After making sure of all these things, the process of price bargaining begins until reaching the best price. The sacrifice then is loaded in the care, and while on the way home, the head of the family passes the fodder market as it is customary to buy the sacrifice several days before the Eid and keep it at home and feed it from the purchased fodder. As for the children, they wait their father to arrive home with the sacrifice.

He added that on the first Eid day and right after Eid prayer, the butcher would come to the house with tools and supplies for slaughter, including his sharp knife, in preparation for slaughtering the sacrifice, and the father would help him in that if he was able to slaughter, before legalizing the slaughter process in slaughterhouses.

He pointed out that children in the past, hours before Eid, rejoicing the reception of Eid used to chant some folk songs and say tomorrow is the Eid we slaughter a cow, Saed dances with his sward and dagger.

He pointed out that despite the change of time and in light of the development that has taken place, customs and traditions have not changed on this holy day, as families, including Qatari families, are still clinging to them, but the rituals and methods of slaughter have changed. some people take their sacrifices to the slaughterhouse to slaughter them, and some of them request them through ready to reach mobile applications, while some prefer to send their value to poor Islamic countries through charitable organizations that are responsible for slaughtering them on their behalf.

For his part, sheep breeding and trading specialist Shafi Al Mansouri pointed out the legal conditions required for buying a sheep sacrifice, indicating that it must be 6 months old or above, and from goats, whether Al Ardhi, Hejazi or Omani, the age of the 'goat' must have completed the year, be perfect, free from defects, sound and not one-eyed or blind, fat, not lean, not lame, and it is preferable to buy the sacrifice with its wool.

He pointed out that the initiative to subsidize prices of sacrificial animals for the current year unified the prices for local or imported sheep at QR 900 for a weight of 40 kilograms and above.
