Doha: In celebration of the Independence Day of the United States of American on July 4, and as part of the going celebration of 50 years of Qatar-US diplomatic relations, the US Embassy in Qatar organised an 'American Cultural Day' in partnership with Education City's Multaqa and #bigbmeetup.

The programme commenced with a rendition of the American and Qatari anthems by violinist Sara Mozafari and was followed by the #bigbmeetup“the Fourth of July Special” panel discussion. The panel was moderated by Bosco Menezes and focused on intercultural exchanges and life experiences with US diplomats Samantha Jackson and Victoria Glynn, and Qatari creatives Salman Al Muhannadi and Fatima Mohammed.

The American Cultural Day event commemorated the 246th anniversary of the United States of America. US diplomat Victoria Glynn echoed US President Biden's Independence Day remarks that the country was founded based on an idea, not geography, religion, ethnicity, but an idea that all people are created equal and endowed with unalienable rights, including life, liberty, and pursuit of happiness.

The panellists shared their stories of living in the United States and Qatar, reflected on the US-Qatar relations and shared values, and spoke to the diversity of the American history. Attendees tested their knowledge of US geography, history, pop culture, and US-Qatar relations with a game of Jeopardy.

EducationUSA provided free advising services to prospective international students and offered student resources and tools to navigate the Five Steps to US Study.
