Tehran forces Educational institutions, government headquarters to shut down due to bad air quality

(MENAFN) Educational institutions and government headquarters in Tehran and additional Iranian towns were required to shut down on Monday due to the deteriorating air pollution in the nation.

In line with the Tehran Air Quality Control Firm, the air quality index (AQI) in the city was registered at 116 on Monday, believed unhealthy for all sensitive groups.

Since the start of the year, Tehran has had 63 days of suitable air, four days of unhealthy air (for all people), 34 days of unhealthy air (sensitive groups), two days of dangerous air, as well as two days of clean air, the company said.

It's the second time since April that schools and government offices have been closed in Tehran because of bad air quality fueled by severe sand storms.

All sports venues through 22 regions of the capital were shut for activities as well.

Amir Saedi, a trader in downtown Tehran stated that "It's become worse in the past few months so much so that at times things are barely visible beyond 50-60 meters."
