Rio de Janeiro – The first production test of jet fuel with renewable content (BioQAV) in Brazil was completed by Petrobras. The product is part of the company's new generation of sustainable fuels , which follow the commitment to develop pioneering solutions focused on reducing carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions.

According to Petrobras, as it contains vegetable oil compounds in its formulation, obtained through hydrogenation, a chemical reaction with the addition of hydrogen, BioQAV emits less CO2 than mineral jet fuel, a petroleum byproduct.

For the director of Refining and Natural Gas at Petrobras, Rodrigo Costa (pictured above), BioQAV will play an essential role in reducing CO2 emissions from the airline sector.“Petrobras has all the skills and conditions to pioneer the research, development, and future production of BioQAV in Brazil. With a vocation to innovate, the company is a reference in the technological development of state-of-the-art products and has a history of working with sustainable fuels such as Diesel R5, with renewable content,” he evaluated.

The company informed the test was carried out at the Presidente Getúlio Vargas Refinery (REPAR) in the state of Paraná, and the results were considered promising. According to Petrobras, the production of renewable jet fuel results from its BioRefino Program, aimed at developing more modern and sustainable fuels and the decarbonization fronts of the company's 2022-2026 Strategic Plan.
