Pakistan- Corona claims life of another doctor in KP


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) PESHAWAR: Coronavirus took the life of another doctor in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Friday, taking the death toll of doctors in the province to 66.

Provincial Doctors Association (PDA) said in a statement that Dr Ali Akbar, Senior Medical Officer at District Headquarters Hospital Matta, Swat had contracted coronavirus and was under treatment at Kulsoom International Hospital in Islamabad for the last two weeks but could not recover and breathed his last on Friday.

His funeral prayer was offered at his ancestral graveyard in Bazkhela, Matta after Juma prayer.

The YDA says the government has not given martyrs package to any of the deceased health worker and none has got corona risk allowance so far.

The death of Dr Ali Akbar happened three days after former Senior Medical Officer District Headquarters Hospital Mardan Dr Noor Islam, who was under treatment at the corona intensive care unit (ICU) of Hayatabad Medical Complex (ICU) for the last 18 days, died of coronavirus.

The funeral prayer of Dr Noor Islam was offered at ancestral village, Pir Sado in Takhtbhai tehsil of Mardan. Dr Noor Islam had also served as Medico Legal Officer in Mardan.

Doctors and health staff are at increased risk of contracting coronavirus as they come in contact with various infected persons in hospitals.

140 more die of corona in Pakistan

Meanwhile, 140 more deaths and 4,298 new positive cases of Coronavirus infection have been reported in the country.

According to the fresh statistics issued by National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC), 44,846 tests were conducted while positivity ratio remained nine point five eight percent. The death toll due to coronavirus in Pakistan has now reached 18,677.

Meanwhile, Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, who is also chairman of the NCOC, urged the people to spend the last few days of Ramazanul Mubarak and Eidul Fitr with simplicity and caution.

In a tweet on Friday, he expressed satisfaction that due to timely decisions, the country is not faced with the kind of COVID-19 situation currently being witnessed in the neighboring country. He however said we have to spend this critical time with caution.
