Afghanistan: Gov't media official shot dead in Kandahar


(MENAFN) Local police corroborated that on Thursday, May. 6 shooters fired and killed a senior administration media official in Kandahar city, capital of Afghanistan's southern Kandahar province.

Jamal Barakzai from provincial police said to Xinhua: "director of Public Relation Office of Ministry of Finance, Nemat Rawan, was shot dead by gunmen in Police District of 14 of Kandahar city Thursday morning."

Rawan was a well-known journalist who formerly worked as an anchor in local TV channel Tolo News TV's political programs, and was famous for his profession in the political sector.

Two armed men engaged in the gunfire ran away as soon as they found Rawan killed in his sedan. No group has assumed accountability for the assault thus far. Afghan journalists considered the killing as a targeted assault.
