Cyprus tourism proceeds decrease 93 pct in 1st month YoY


(MENAFN) On Friday, Apr. 2 figures issued by the Statistical Service of Cyprus (CYSTAT) showed that Cyprus tourism proceeds registered a decline of 93 percent during the first month of 2021 in comparison with the very month of last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Gains from tourism in the stated period stood at only USD3,2 million, a great decline from proceeds of around USD47,2 million in January last year, stated CYSTAT in a report.

In comparison with the same month 2019, when around USD46,5 million was registered in tourism proceeds, the decline hit 92.9 percent.

During the first month of this year, tourist arrivals reached only 3,889, a decrease by a massive 95.5 percent from 85,622 annually, and by 95.3 percent from the number posted in January 2019, the last complete tourist year prior to the beginning of the pandemic.
