Spotlight on Qatari football veterans at Katara exhibition

Two days ahead of the annual National Sport Day celebration, an exhibition featuring trailblazing football players of Qatar opened at the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara).
Launched yesterday at Katara Building 18, 'Veteran Football Players Exhibition features legendary football players from two prominent professional sports club in Qatar namely Al Wakrah Sport Club and Al Khor Sport Club. The exhibition traces the incredible journey of these players including their achievements, memorable moments, and their indelible contributions to football in Qatar seen through the objects on display.
Divided into two sections, the exhibition, which runs for two weeks, focuses on a number of famous players from the two clubs, how they had been known for during their prime and are remembered.
The show tells of their beginnings in football, their early influences, their awards and achievement record, career highlights, unforgettable matches and moments and contributions as players and later as coaches.
Among the Al Wakrah SC veteran players featured at the exhibition are Hassan Abdulrahman Al Qadi (The Gifted), Hassan Ali Al Sheeb (Defense Backbone of Al Wakrah), Mubarak Salem Al Khater (The Bee), Khalil Saleh Al Mazroui (The Hunter), and Jassim Yousuf Al Tamimi (The Commando) while the veteran players from Al Khor SC included in the show are Saeed Saad Al Misnad (The Joker), Mohammed Mubarak Al Muhannadi (Canon of Qatari Football), Khamis Mubarak Al Muhannadi (The Hero of Qatari Football), and Ahmad Lahdan Al Muhannadi (Flying Back Defender). Old photos, medals, certificates, trophies, jerseys, and other significant memorabilia are among the objects showcased at the exhibition. Video footages of important games and interviews are also being screened at the exhibition venue.
The show highlights the clubs' history and development including their achievements on the local and international stage, leadership, veteran local players and professional foreign players who altogether contributed to the success of the sport in Qatar. Not only does the exhibition look back on the clubs' successes and pay tribute to the hard work and sacrifices made by veteran players in the past but also inspire and spark passion for the sport within the new generation.
The exhibition coincides with two very important sports events which are the National Sport Day which will be celebrated tomorrow and the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup Qatar 2020 which witnesses the gathering of top clubs from various continental confederations. The exhibition is open to the public following COVID-19 safety protocols until February 21 at Gallery 1 of Katara Building 18.
