(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BEIRUT, Sept 13 (KUNA) -- Lebanese Minister of Telecommunications Mohamed Choucair said on Friday that the government has started the transformation process to the digital economy that acquires four percent of the country's national income.
Choucair, who represented Prime Minister Saad Al-Hariri at the opening ceremony to 'Digital Lebanon Conference 2019' held in Beirut with Arab and international participation added that Lebanon is working to form suitable infrastructure in addition to providing high speed internet.
He added that to achieve the digital transformation strategy the country needs political harmony and politicians' determination to cultivate the country's progress.
On her part, Minister of State for Administrative Development Dr. May Chidiac said, a national strategy for the digital transformation determines the formation of infrastructure for information technology, which needs full cooperation between the public and private sector.
She called for the protection of the digital economy and the personal data by forming a cyber-security, which the government is working to achieve it.
Moreover, Minister of State for Investment & Technology Adel Afiouni said that an ambitious project for digital liberation was launched to follow the footsteps of the leading countries in that field, pointing out that the digital transformation is optimal way for the country's development.
He added that they are reliant on digital transformation in both public and private sectors to boost the economy.
The conference's opening session focused on the economic growth through the national strategy to develop the digital economy, accelerate the government digital transformation process, Lebanon's vision 2020 and to use Mackenzie's Economic Report as a road map to use to make the change. (end)
