Space education center opens in Amman


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Amman, Aug. 21 (Petra) -- Deputizing for His Majesty King Abdullah II, HRH Princess Summaya bint El-Hassan on Wednesday inaugurated the premises of the UN-affiliated Regional Centre for Space Science and Technology Education for Western Asia in Amman.
The Center, the first of its kind in the Kingdom and the fifth in the world, is a testament of Jordan's global position in the field of space science, and aims to enhance the capabilities of the Kingdom and the region in the field of space science and technology.
Director of the center, Awani Khasawneh, said the facility will introduce academic programs in the fields of space science and its various applications, meteorology, communications, weather and atmospheric sciences, as well as short, medium and long-term training courses in these disciplines.
Mohamed Al Ahbabi, Director General of the UAE Space Agency, underlined the strong relationship between the UAE Agency and the Center through the UAE membership in the center, pointing out that the UAE seeks to be a regional hub for space exploration, education and human capacity development in this area.
President of the Arab Union for Space and Astronomy Sciences Humaid Al-Nuaimi highlighted the importance of the center at the regional and international levels, urging closer Arab cooperation to ensure the success of the facility.
