In collaboration with the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (ADLSA) and the International Labour Organisation, Qatar International Cables Company (QICC) held an election of worker representatives to its Joint Committee on July 15, 2019 in its Mesaieed Plant & Doha Sales office.

QICC is one of six companies piloting the election of Joint Committee worker representatives in Qatar. More than 130 employees participated in the election, casting votes for their candidates.

Winners were announced on July 16, 2019 with Nishaj Markkarakath, Justice Idun and Muddassir Ali Syed elected as Joint Committee worker representatives. Each will serve a two-year term from 2019-2021. The Committee will meet once a month to discuss and find resolutions to issues raised by workers through direct communication with management.

'It brings us immense pride for QICC to volunteer in this pilot initiative to establish Joint Committees in Qatar. We are overwhelmed by the interest of our employees to participate as workers representatives. We look forward to fruitful meetings that will promote closer relationships between management and workers, said Karima Cherifi, QICC's HR and Admin Director.

'We strongly support the setup of this Joint Committee which is a great opportunity to establish a new channel of communication between the management and employees and ultimately to identify together win-win solutions for the benefit of both employees and the company, said Mr. Max-André Delannoy, QICC's CEO.

The first meeting of the QICC Joint Committee is due to take place in September 2019. It is expected to strengthen communication and relationships between employer and employee by keeping all employees abreast with all relevant information they need especially on topics of productivity, training, employment regulations, health and safety.

QICC considers Joint Committees as a great opportunity to broaden the aspect of communication by breaking barriers between management and employees, bringing employees and management closer together to solve any issue. Improved communication for the betterment of work conditions is the right step to productivity and engagement.
