Turkey issues detention warrants for over 200 FETO suspects
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Turkish prosecutors released detention warrants for more than 200 soldiers in Istanbul and the Aegean Izmir province for their suspected connections with the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO), the group behind the 2016 defeated coup.
The warrants were released for 176 active-duty soldiers comprising colonels, lieutenants, majors, and captains in Istanbul and 20 active-duty and five previous soldiers in addition to 10 civilian suspects in Izmir, according to Istanbul prosecutors.
The defendants are being wanted as part of an investigation into FETO infiltration of the Turkish Armed Forces (TSK), according to sources who spoke in condition of secrecy.
The suspects in Izmir are accused of communicating with FETO's "covert imams" - senior FETO operatives - via pay phone.
