Hail, thunderstorm lash parts of UAE temperatures expected to drop by 6C

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Dubai residents were delighted by the gush of rain Sunday evening.
Unstable weather - hail and thunderstorm - were recorded at Fujairah wadis and parts of Ras Al Khaimah early Sunday morning, the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM) had announced on Twitter.
Residents in Khalifa City, as well as those on Salaam Road in Abu Dhabi, experienced moderate rains at around 4am on Sunday. Areas hit by the rain in Abu Dhabi include Al Shawamekh, Al Ruwais, Al Dalma Island, Ghiyati and Al Mirfa in Al Dharfa, according to NCM.

Temperatures are forecast to drop by six degrees on Wednesday providing temporary relief from heat before summer hits in full force.

"The biggest temperature drop (by six degrees) will be in the western part of the country," said forecaster Dr Ahmed Habib. "In the other parts of the country, temperatures will drop by up to two degrees."

He also said that rainfall at this time of the year was a normal occurrence, as "May is the transition period between winter and summer". In fact, the same happened in 2017 and 2018, he added.

Dr Habib said that due to low pressure in the upper and surface layers of the atmosphere, there was further possibility of rain.

Due to the increase of the flow of moist air from the Arabian Sea, the weather condition will deepen as clouds increase. Rains of different intensities, with lightning and thunder at times, are expected until Wednesday, as convective clouds form over scattered areas, including Al Ain and the eastern region and extending at times to some coastal areas of the UAE. The amount of clouds will decrease gradually from Thursday.

The winds during this period will be moderate, leading to rough sea and causing blowing dust and sands with poor horizontal visibility at times.
