Erdogan says Turkey, Turkish Cypriots interests must be shielded

(MENAFN) Turkey and Turkish Cypriots ought to have their rights and interests shielded in order for the Eastern Mediterranean to achieve stability, affirmed Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

President Erdogan emphasized "stability in Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean is only possible by looking after the rights and interests of Turkey and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus."

This comes while the president was addressing envoys during a fast-breaking meal held at the headquarters of the ruling Justice and Development (AK) Party.

Erdogan highlighted Turkey's rejection of a fait accompli within the region.

He added "like all problems, we want to solve this issue with reciprocal talks, dialogue and cooperation."
