Afghanistan: 24 die in clashes between militants, police personnel


(MENAFN) Deputy to Provincial Council Shah Mahmoud Naeemi declared that at least 10 police personnel and 14 militants have died as gunfights erupted in Afghanistan's western Farah province on Wednesday.

The official added that the gunfights broke out after the Taliban militants attacked security checkpoints to claim control over Anar Dara district and police fired back sparking intense clashes.

Meanwhile, an official confirmed that the Taliban's efforts to control Anar Dara district have been blocked and reinforcement has been dispatched to evacuate the area of armed militants.

Taliban militants have not made any statements on the incident yet.
