(MENAFN- Gulf Times) There was little stopping Deborah Mountain-schooled Shabbab as the gelding topped The Late Abdul Aziz Al Fuhaid Cup, yesterday's dirt feature, even as Jassim Mohamed Ghazali saddled four winners at the Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club's (QREC) Al Rayyan Park.
Saleem Golam, who had helmed the gelding when he placed well in a Group 2 in December, was in the saddle of the Hassan Ali al-Abdulmalik-owned six-year-old again, and the two won comfortably with three-and-a-half lengths to spare at the post, while Ghazali-saddled Opera Baron had to stay content with runner-up spot under JP Guillambert.
In the penultimate race of the day too, Ghazali had to settle for a runner-up position after Osama Omer al-Dafea's Aziz'nafs registered his first victory in almost a year, beating AJS Al Moheeb in the Purebred Arabian Handicap event for horses rated 90 and below.
However, the champion trainer had already bagged four wins with Meshaal bin Ali al-Attiyah's Almigdam, and Khalifa bin Sheail al-Kuwari's Daneyan and Midsummer Knights grabbing Handicap victories under Ronan Thomas, Harry Bentley and Guillambert respectively.
Qatari jockey Yousef al-Hajri picked up his fourth win of the season guiding Zuhair Mohsen-schooled Al Watan to a local Thoroughbred handicap win.
Thomas also had a winner in Umm Qarn's Dabaab, with the Alban de Mieulle ward notching her third victory this season, in the Purebred Arabian Graduation Plate event.
Ghazali's Al Neksh and Hassan al-Matwi's Nomas Al Shajaa were among the Arabians to shed their maiden status.
