Israeli troops raid WAFA news agency offices

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) GAZA, Dec 10 (KUNA) -- Israeli soldiers raided the offices of the Palestinian news agency, WAFA, on Monday as part of an inspection operation in many areas in Ramallah and other Palestinian cities.

A press statement by WAFA said the Israeli forces raided the agency's building in Al-Masayef neighborhood in Ramallah and prevented employees from leaving the building as they began carefully checking their identifications and confined them in the editorial office.

The soldiers fired tear gas inside the building as they entered causing suffocation and difficulty of breathing among those inside the building.

It also added the soldiers broke into the receivers' room and seized videotapes of the surveillance cameras while also using the site to fire live and rubber bullets, as well as tear gas and sound canisters at the young people protesting around the building.

Medical sources confirmed tens of people suffered suffocation from the gas canisters as well as rubber bullet wounds as they were confronted from the northern Ramallah entrance all the way into the city.

The Israeli forces raided the northern entrance of Bireh city, according to press sources, and began inspecting a number of the citizens and seizing surveillance cameras that observed the clashes in the town.

The Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu accused Palestinian authorities of incitement, promising to chase down those who carried out the drive-by shooting attack the night before in Ramallah.

During Israeli's national liberal movement Likud's meeting, Netanyahu commented on the attack on the Ofra settlement saying that it is not necessary to expect condemnation of the Palestinian authorities and threatened to continue the search campaign to find the shooters.

Six Israeli settlers were wounded last night near the entrance of Ofra settlement in a drive-by attack with armed individuals who managed to escape without any Palestinian authority accepting the responsibility of this incident. (end) wab.aq
