Amman, Dec 8 (Petra) –– Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates Ayman Safadi Saturday discussed with European Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Management Christos Stylianides ways of cementing the growing cooperation between Jordan and the European Union.
Safadi and Stilianides stressed the importance of developing the Jordanian-European partnership in various fields.
The EU official hailed Jordan's efforts to bring about security and stability in the region, noting the Kingdom's model in hosting Syrian refugees.
The EU sees Jordan as a key partner in the region and an oasis of security and stability, and will continue to support the Kingdom through the multiple cooperation and partnership programs, Stylianides pledged.
Safadi said that Jordan valued its key and robust partnership with the EU and is keen on strengthening cooperation and coordination with the bloc, noting EU nations' aid to the Kingdom to help it bear the the burden of hosting Syrian refugees.
On the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Safadi said that achieving the common goal of building regional security, stability and peace is only attainable through ending the occupation and realizing the two-state solution.
The Foreign Minister commeded European support of the two-state solution and the importance of the EU role to find a political horizon and break the dangerous stalemate in the peace process.
The Foreign Minister called on the international community to continue its obligation towards the Syrian refugees, warning of the dangers of declining international aid for refugees and the host countries.
He said enough aid should be made available to help Jordan meet the needs of 1.3 million displaced Syrians, 90 percent of whom live outside refugee camps.
In this context, Safadi pointed out that the only solution to the problem of of the Al Rukban Syrian refugee camp is to secure their safe return to their towns and villages, adding that Jordan had allowed aid to reach the camp from inside its territory when it was not possible to send assistance from within Syria.
