Iraq's new gov't to prioritize tackling corruption

(MENAFN) Iraq's President Barham Salih affirmed that the new government is to mostly focus on three goals: wiping out corruption, boosting services, and tackling unemployment.

The statement was made by the Iraqi president on Friday while addressing people in central Baghdad's Mutanabi Street.

The president stressed: "the next government will work to address corruption and to hold the corrupted people accountable."

Salih noted that "providing better public services and addressing the issue of unemployment will find a lot of interests in the next government."

"The political blocs are trying to keep away from pressing Mahdi so that he can be free to choose his cabinet," as stated political analyst in Mutanabi Street Mohammed Hashim.

The expert also told Xinhua "I think he will be able to accomplish his mission ... and I think the people of Iraq are hopeful that many projects which have not been done before will be achieved now."
