UAE- The in thing about bling today

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) hoppers at the MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show at Expo Centre Sharjah were in an upbeat mood, with many saying that they were interested in buying something for their families.

The 45th edition of the exhibition, which began on Tuesday and will end today, drew 11,273 visitors on the first day - a growth of 4 per cent over the previous year.

Exhibitors at the event noted that the numbers were indicative of positive buying sentiments among shoppers.

"Exhibitions such as these have always been a great place to showcase our latest designs," said Manish Dhamani, director of retail at Dhamani Jewels. "The MidEast Watch and Jewellery Show at Expo Centre Sharjah has been successful year after year because of the participants and clientele," he added.

Asked about popular trends in the market right now, and if the fluctuating gold prices had impacted buying behaviour at this year's exhibition, he said: "Gold prices never affect the behaviour of passionate jewellery lovers. When it comes to jewellery, its more about personality and inspired creativity today, rather than just the stones and gold. The emerging trend is that consumers are more focused on aspirational jewellery, which suits their own persona rather than going for just big fancy jewellery."

Tahira Harris, a shopper from Sharjah, said that she was looking for something for her daughters.

"Both my daughters got excellent marks in their examinations and I told my husband that we would buy something nice for them when this show started. I am not looking for anything very fancy - maybe a nice bracelet for each of them, which they can wear on special occasions."

Another shopper, who was there with his sister, said that they were planning to buy a gift for their mother in Pakistan. "We were thinking of getting her some earrings with a stone in them, and a matching ring," said Mohammed Amjad. "My sister will be travelling back home for the winter vacations, so she will take the set with her. There are a lot of choices here so we are sure that we will find something that both of us like and which fits our price range."

Shurooq Al Midfa, owner of Shurooq Al Midfa Jewellery, stated that she has participated in the show for the second time in a row because she considers it an opportunity to enhance her skills in promoting her company and her designs, and to learn about the opinions and tastes of the visitors.

She also stated that she witnessed significant interest in her jewellery designs from visitors during the last edition of the show, which encouraged her to participate again in the current edition.

The MidEast Watch and Jewellery is being held amidst the participation of more than 500 local and international companies and brands from 25 different countries.
