In a report published by the National Institute of Dental and Craniofacial Research, 5-12 % of the U.S. population is affected by TMD, the main cause of jaw pain in general. At 95 %, this disorder is mainly found in female patients. However, only two out of three people seek treatment. The pain caused by TMD may be mistaken for simple chronic headaches, but it is a serious condition.

"Many times, TMJ disorder is thought to be regular headaches, but seeking treatment before surgery becomes mandatory is important. The consequences of being negligent in acquiring the right TMD treatment are very real. Too much pain in the jaw joint and the muscles controlling jaw movement interferes with daily tasks and life," said Dr.Marvin.

Over time, conditions get worse when problems are not identified at the first stages. TMD often begins with simple headaches. When there is lack of treatment, it may end up in unending jaw pain, recurring headaches and other bad effects.
