(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ANKARA, Feb 9 (KUNA) -- A Turkish military convoy advanced into southeast Idlib governorate, northwest Syria, on Friday evening to establish a new ceasefire observation point.
The convoy headed to the Idlib-Afrin road after crossing the Turkish-Syrian borders, and were deployed in the Tall Tukan town, Abu Zuhur province, in the southeastern Idlib de-escalation zone.
The new outpost is located nearly six kilometers (3.7 miles) from the Syrian regular army camps and 50 kilometers (31 miles) from the Turkish-Syrian borders, according to Turkey's Anadolu Agency.
This is the fifth outpost established by the Turkish army in Idlib de-escalation zone since October 12, 2017, when the Turkish Army crossed into Syria to monitor the ceasefire regime under the Astana agreement.
The three sponsors of the ceasefire between the Syrian army and opposition forces - Turkey, Russia and Iran - reached agreement in the Kazakh capital city in last September; it allows Turkey to establish 12 observation points, from Idlib's north to south.
The Russian troops in the de-escalation zone are expected to redeploy outside of the zone, along the frontline between the Syrian regime and opposition forces. (end) rs.gb
