Saudi- EP municipality shutters 28 food outlets for violations
(MENAFN- Arab News) The Eastern Province municipality has shut down 28 restaurants and food establishments which were in violation of the health regulations and issued warnings to 308 others during an inspection campaign on Monday.
The municipality inspectors inspected 797 restaurants and food establishments in Dammam and monitored 1174 violations which included negligence in constructing a partition with a glass wall allowing customers to see how their food is being prepared.
Spokesman of the Eastern Province municipality Mohammed bin Abdul Aziz Al-Sufian said: 'The municipality inspectors visited buffets shops fast food restaurants and other eateries to check that they were complying with the health standards.'
'The inspectors destroyed more than 89 kg of food unfit for human consumption. Violations included employees without health certificates and not wearing their uniforms at work inappropriate kitchen equipment unhealthy packaging and poor storage conditions' he added.
He pointed out that the municipality authorities had given violating restaurants a deadline within which to correct the shortcomings adding that the inspectors would do the rounds again following the expiry of the deadline to ensure that they had met the conditions.
