Swedish Prime Minister Resigns After Elections Defeat
(MENAFN- QNA) Swedish Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt conceded defeat in parliamentary elections and announced Monday his resignation.
Reinfeldt said he would hand in his resignation and his cabinet's after a center-left coalition won the majority of the votes. The Swedish Prime Minister also announced he would step down as leader of the Moderates, the largest party in the center-right Alliance his cabinet represented.
Reinfeldt's alliance won 23.2% of the votes, compared to the 30.1% they earned in the previous elections. The center-left coalition won 43.6% of the votes this year. Leader of that coalition Stefan Lofven said that the voting reflected the Swedish people's desire for change.
