Watan wins in presence of Sheikh Joaan at Qatar Goodwood Festival


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar Olympic Committee President HE sheikh Joaan bin Hamad al-Thani was present on the first day of the Qatar Goodwood Festival yesterday at Goodwood Racecourse in the UK. The five-day Festival will see a wide range of races with the world's top Arabian and Thoroughbred horses.
It was a fantastic start to the Festival with Al Shaqab Racing recording the first victory for Qatar in this edition.
In the presence of HE Sheikh Joaan, Watan won the fifth race in the card impressively. The chestnut colt, schooled by Richard Hannon, was steered by Ryan Moore to win the six-furlong race reserved for two-year-old maidens.
Al Shaqab executive director Khalifa bin Mohamed al-Attiyah received the winner's trophy at the presentation ceremony.
Also present on the first day of the Festival were Duke of Richmond, owner of Goodwood Racecourse, Qatar Equestrian Federation president Hamad bin Abdulrahman al-Attiyah, Qatar Racing and Equestrian Club (QREC) general manager Nasser bin Sherida al-Kaabi, and QREC racing manager Abdulla Rashid al-Kubaisi, besides numerous horse owners and trainers from around the world.
