EU, Russia, Ukraine to resume negotiations on gas transit


(MENAFN) The European Union, Russia and Ukraine have reached an agreement to resume negotiations for a deal on the shipment of Russian gas to the EU through Ukraine.

European Commission Vice President Maros Sefcovic affirmed that he had an excellent meeting with Russia's Energy Minister Alexander Novak and Ukraine's Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin.

During a news conference, the EU chief stated "I am pleased to announce that today, we have managed to establish a trilateral process with Russia and Ukraine."

Sefcovic further declared the high-level experts from all parties to have a meeting in order to address serious matters mid-September.

He added "this will prepare grounds for the next trilateral meeting at the political level that should take place in the course of October."
