Canadian PM calls for free trade deals with Europe, Asia

(MENAFN) Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has urged that his country ought to make comprehensive free trade agreements with Europe and Asia.

The call has come amid uncertainty in dealing with the US, which is usually Canada's most significant trading partner.

The total trade between Canada and the US has amounted for USD673.9 billion last year, the Office of the United States Trade Representative unveiled.

Prime Minister Trudeau stated "you can understand that it's kind of frustrating, not just for Canadians, but for me to see continued trade barriers to internal trade in Canada."

The prime minister stressed "if we want to continue to demonstrate that free trade is good for consumers, then we need to do a better job of demonstrating that here in Canada."

He added "we have to make sure at times of challenges to trade with our most significant trading partner (U.S.), there are no challenges to trade within Canada."
