EU warns retaliation against possible US auto tariff: EU official

(MENAFN) A senior European Commission official warned that the EU is set to retaliate against any US decision to impose tariffs on vehicles manufactured within the bloc.

It comes in response to President Trump's threat to hit all imports of EU-assembled cars with a 20 percent tariff.

Speaking to French newspaper Le Monde, EU Commission Vice President Jyrki Katainen stressed that "if they decide to raise their import tariffs, we'll have no choice, again, but to react."

The EU chief added that "we don't want to fight (over trade) in public via Twitter. We should end the escalation."
