India reaffirms support for Afghan peace process


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): Indian Ambassador to Afghanistan Vinay Kumar has called on High Peace Council (HPC) Chairman Mohamad Karim Khalili and reiterated New Delhi€™s support from Afghan reconciliation process, a statement from the HPC said on Friday.

Kumar reassured Indian support to Afghanistan in the future and added his country was helping Afghanistan in the areas of health, higher education, reconstruction and capacity building.

He said peace and stability in Afghanistan was in the interest of the region and Indian along with other international partners would continue to support the peace process.

Khalili while referring to cordial relationship between Kabul and New Delhi thanked the Indian support to Afghanistan.

He said national consensus on peace existed and there was need for regional consensus on issues related to Afghanistan.

Back in February, President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has revealed peace strategy asking the Taliban to join the reconciliation process. The president extended the offer during Kabul Process Conference in the presence of representatives from 25 countries and global organisations.

Amending the constitution, release of the Taliban€™s prisoners and removal of the Taliban€™s leaders name from international black list were the main points of the president€™s peace strategy.
