33 Palestinians leave Gaza via Egypt last week

(MENAFN) On Friday,Hamas, which remains in control of the strip since 2007, said that at least 33 wounded Palestinians went through the border with Egypt to receive medical treatment, last week.

"So far, only 33 of the roughly 13,000 people injured in the demonstrations have been able to leave the strip for treatment overseas," Hamas said in a statement.

"Jordan took in 30 of the injured, while Egypt absorbed the remaining three," the statement added.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators converged March 30 on the Gaza Strip's 45-kilometer-long (28-mile) eastern border with Israel to demand their right to return to their ancestral homes in historical Palestine. In anticipation of the mass demonstrations, Israel deployed thousands of occupation troops along the border. On May15, 65 people were martyred; the attacks injured nearly 13,000 victims.
