Afghanistan- Taliban attacks beaten back, claims Uruzgan governor


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) TIRINKOT (Pajhwok): The governor of central Uruzgan province claims security forces have beaten back a string of recent Talibaninfo-icon

Asadullah Saeed made the remarks weeks after the insurgents launched assaults on Khas Uruzgan and Chora districts. Casualties were inflicted on a number of security forces.

He said the attacks led by Mullahinfo-icon

Saeed added the militants tried to seize Uruzgan province because of its strategic location. From Uruzgan, he argued, the rebels could easily launch attacks on other province.

The guerrillas had suffered huge casualties, including notorious commanders, the governor continued. He criticised the central government for not paying due attention to Uruzgan.

During his recent trip to Kabulinfo-icon

Saeed once again called on Taliban to renounce war and join the reconciliation process. The group has not yet reacted to the governor's remarks.
