UAE- First Sharjah Engineering Forum focuses on future of construction

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The first Sharjah Engineering Forum organised by the Sharjah Municipality focused on the future of building construction in the emirate.

The forum came out with a number of recommendations including the replacement of traditional electricity meters with smart ones that contribute to sustainability and conservation and installation of devices that help analyse data and give subscribers a clear and accurate reading of the volume of energy consumption. It also recommended the use of green concrete in all construction projects and familiarising the contractors and owners of its benefits.

Implementation of a mechanism for recycling of construction waste is another recommendation by the forum.

The forum, during its three sessions, discussed the conditions of construction, the situation of the real estate sector and the use of technology and sustainable features in buildings. It was attended by engineers, contracting companies, construction consultants and top government officials.

The forum was organised under the patronage of Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi, Crown Prince and Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Chairman of the Executive Council.

The forum also recommended the launching of awareness campaigns for all stakeholders, including government agencies, to educate them about the importance of urban and heritage architecture. All the participants agreed that the formation of a Supreme Real Estate Authority to provide real estate information would be an essential need.

Speaking to Khaleej Times on the sidelines of the conference, Thabit Al Turaifi, director-general of the Sharjah Municipality, said that the forum would help identify the best engineering methods that have been innovated internationally.
Khalifa bin Huda Al Suwaidi, assistant general manager of the engineering and building department at the municipality, said that the forum is the beginning of a series of conferences that would further expand the topics.
