Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan discussed prospective cooperation on border control as well as development of checkpoint infrastructure on the Kyrgyz-Kazakh state border in line with the international standards and Kyrgyzstan's Eurasian Economic Union integration, press office of the Kyrgyz State Border Service said March 24.
The discussion was held during a meeting between Chairman of the Kyrgyz Border Service Ularbek Sharsheyev and Kazakh Ambassador in Kyrgyzstan Karim Kokrekbayev.
The head of the border service informed Kokrekbayev about reconstruction of the Tokmok-Avtodorozhny, Ken Bulun-Avtodorozhny, Ak-Tilek-Avtodorozhny and Chaldybar-Avtodorozhny checkpoints.
Currently, the two countries consider changing status of the Ken-Bulun and Tokmok checkpoints from bilateral to multilateral (international). The Kyrgyz side proposed to introduce the year-round operation at the Karkyra-Avtodorozhny checkpoint, which is currently operating from May to October.
'Cooperation between Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan on border control is one of the most important points of the bilateral relations, where the joint activity against the international terrorism, religious extremism and separatism plays a key role. Development of partnership and safety of the interstate border are priority directions of interaction between the two countries in the border control sphere,' Sharsheyev underlined during the meeting.
