DOHA: Under the theme 'Building Bridges, Community College of Qatar will organise first version of TEDxCCQ conference on March 31 in which around 13 speakers from Qatar and abroad will share their ideas on the subject with the community.

Addressing the press conference, Dr Abdallah Hazaimeh, Dean of CCQ said that CCQ was seeking to be part of the change to bridge the gaps created by political and geographical boundaries.

'We believe in educating a socially and globally responsible citizens and future leaders and TEDx is a good platform for advocating these values and principles.

The conference is a collaboration work among the students and the faculty of CCQ and it is being hosted by the Cultural Village Katara in its Drama Theatre.

As many as 13 speakers will participate in the first version of the conference from different fields, including Dr. Ibrahim Al-Naimi, the President of CCQ and the Qatari inventor Mohamed Aljefairi, in addition to a group of the most prominent figures in the society like Aisha Al-kuwari, Ahmad Al Maadheed and others.

The participants will speak about a wide range of topics, such as education, technology, entrepreneurship, community service, etc.

The organising committee has said in a statement that it has chosen 'Building Bridges as the theme of the first version of their conference. 'This theme was actually inspired by the fact that Qatar is building bridges literally and metaphorically where architects, engineers and urban planners are building far and wide throughout the country in preparation of hosting the world cup 2022.

'On the other side, the institutions in Qatar are working on consolidating the communication with many different countries around the globe. Based on this fact, TEDxCCQ organisers believe, this theme will be the symbol of the connection between the present and the future, between nationalism and globalization and many other aspects that could be used to build bridges reaching the world.

Nycki Cuddie, the organizer also added: 'CCQ, Doha, and Qatar are building bridges and connections while facing the current brotherly disconnection of the blockade. Organizing this event was to showcase some of the amazing talent we have here, and the ideas that really do build a connection: from college to workplace, from locals to expats, and from the country to the world.

Mastoor Al-Kaboody, the co-organizer said: 'I decided to organize TEDxCCQ to make a difference and help CCQ be a driving force for spreading constructive ideas, and a platform for people who are doing remarkable things in the community. Hosting TEDxCCQ means bringing the community together to share resources and inspiring stories, and be there for each other.

Responding a question, Dr. Abdallah Hazaimeh, Dean of CCQ said that it was first version of TEDxCCQ and most likely the college would continue organizing the conference on annual basis. It is important to mention that, in the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx. TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience.

This event is called TEDxCCQ, where x means independently organized TED event. At TEDxCCQ event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, including ours, are self-organised.
