Here is our list of cricketers who defied the physical laws to take the field after the age of 40.


Adam Gilchrist: The swashbuckler
41 years old


Former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist was one of the most explosive batsmen in his time and that earned him an IPL contract in 2008. He went onto play till the age of 41.

After leading the Deccan Chargers to IPL glory in 2009, he moved to Kings XI Punjab.

He last played in the 2013 edition and has 2,069 runs to his name.


Shane Warne: The legend
41 years old


Australian spin-legend Shane Warne needs no introduction and due to his plethora of talent Royals appointed him the captain of the franchise.

His shrewd captaincy helped the Rajasthan Royals win the first IPL Trophy in 2008.

He played his last match for the outfit from Rajasthan in the 2011 season at the age of 41 years.

Warne bagged 57 wickets in 55 matches.


Muttiah Muralitharan: The spin wizard

Sri Lankan spin-legend Muttiah Muralitharan, who has 1300+ scalps in international cricket, played in IPL till 2014 season. Murali has been a part of 3 IPL franchises, Chennai Super Kings, Kochi Tuskers and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. In 66 matches, Murali has bagged 63 wickets.


Pravin Tambe: The match-winner
44 years old


Pravin Tambe has been one of the biggest success stories of the Indian Premier League.

He teaches us the importance of never giving up on your dreams.

Tambe never played Ranji cricket but was handed his IPL cap by the Rajasthan Royals at the age of 41.

He played in the IPL until the 2016 season picking up 28 wickets in 33 matches.


Brad Hogg: The Docker
44 years old


Hogg stepped out of retirement in 2011 to play in the Big Bash League.

This caught the eye of Royals, which made him a part of the squad for 2012 edition.

He then joined KKR and became the oldest player to take the field aged 44 years and 81 days.

Hogg is the world's oldest top-level cricket player to take 100 wickets in T20s
