Indian Photographer Himanshu Khagta Publishes Photo Book 'Life in Spiti A Winter in Himalayan Desert'

'It was during hiking around the hills of Spiti, last summer, when I considered that I should come back in the winters to experience how the people survive in such harsh conditions,' said Himanshu in a short email communiqué about this personal project.

In an interview, Himanshu Khagta explained further. He said; 'It was the best winters of my life, the one I spent learning what it is to live in -30 degree Celsius," relates a very animated Himanshu. "Winters in Spiti are hard, I prepared for two months before I moved there." 'I wanted to tell a story with my pictures; of course there are captions with pictures to set a context but I want people to decipher the story behind,'

The book contains 168 pages out of which 152 pages are covered with borderless photographs documenting the life of Spiti people in the winters. The young professional has already come a long way. About the photographer

Born in Rohru, a small town in Shimla district, Himanshu Khagta grew up in the nearby city of Shimla, and is one of the top travel and editorial photographers in India. Khagta is an entirely self-taught photographer; he learned the art by watching videos and studying tutorials, and started photography back in High School. He has captured some of the remotest regions in the Himalayas, and is in high demand for his editorial works.
