Turkey has no contract with Russia on meat imports, Turkey's Minister of Food, Agriculture and Livestock Ahmet Esref Fakibaba said, Turkish media reported on March 12.
He made the remarks commenting on Russian Agriculture Minister Alexander Tkachev's statement that export of Russian meat, milk and fish to Turkey can be launched in the near future.
Fakibaba said his ministry did not negotiate with Russia on the meat import.
Previously, Tkachev told TASS that the Russian side expects Turkey to make a decision in the near future on admission of Russian meat and dairy and fish products to its market.
Tkachev added that the Russian agriculture watchdog Rosselkhoznadzor is constantly in contact with Turkish colleagues on this issue and expressed hope that soon the Russian products will enter the Turkish market and will be "appreciated by consumers".
According to the data from Turkey's Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, presently, Turkey imports animals from countries such as Austria, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Bulgaria, Greece and Romania.
