Ghani attends inaugural ceremony for gas pipeline in Serhetabat


(MENAFN- Pajhwok Afghan News) KABUL (Pajhwok): President Ashraf Ghani participated in an inaugural ceremony for a four-nation gas pipeline project in Turkmenistan on Friday, his office said.

Ghani, Turkmenistan's President Gurbanguly Malikgulyevich Berdimuhamedov, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi and India's Minister of State for External Affairs MJ Akbar also attended the event.

Besides participating in the ceremony for the $10 billion TAPI pipeline carrying 33 billion cubic metres of gas annually, Ghani also met the host president, the Presidential Palace in Kabul said.

Ghani was accompanied by his Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani, Minister of Economy Eklil Ahmad Hakimi, advisors Ajmal Ahmadi and Fazal Mahmood Fazli, Deputy Minister of Energy and Water Mohammad Gul Zalmai, Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat head Amanullah Ghalib and others.

The ceremony was held in the Turkmen border city of Serhetabat on Friday after a meeting of the Steering Committee in Mary. Galkynysh, the world´s second largest gas-field, will feed the TAPI pipeline.
