The second day of the 2nd edition of Mahaseel Festival started at the Katara Cultural Village saw a lot of activity with a large number of schoolchildren, and kids with their parents being involved in workshops yesterday.

The agro-produce festival, which is being held in co-operation with the Ministry of Municipality and Environment (MME), is being loved by all Qatari families and other nationalities. Students from Shafallah Center and Rawdat Al Quraan schools spent their mornings at the festival studying and admiring Qatar's home produce of fresh flowers, ornamental plants, green vegetables and fresh milk besides honey and other products on display. The students also bought green vegetables as they hopped from stall to the other. There are over 30 stalls from over 22 Qatar farms offering absolutely fresh farm produce.

In the evening, small kids with their parents lightened up the festival with their colourful presence as they took keen interest in drawing and painting fruits and vegetables; making shapes of fruits and vegetables with dough paper; using carve foam to make models of fruits and vegetables; and with clay designing fruits and vegetables on wooden pieces.

Parents were busy as the young ones revealed their creative selves. Visitors clicked pictures and the children simply loved the atmosphere which was so very educative.

A mother of one such kid, Ala was delighted at her children taking to the workshop in a big way.

'I came here yesterday and we came back as a family for this workshop today. It's very beautiful and my daughter has learnt a lot of things. She's enjoying here, said Ala.

About the festival in general, she said, 'I have bought a lot of things from here like vegetables and flowers. And this workshop for children to mix with nature is very nice indeed. My daughter is enjoying here.

Young Fatima Ahmed Al Mahmoud, who was with her father, made a model of a fort in Doha and was very happy to be there. Mahaseel Festival is open to all till December 27 (9am to 10pm everyday) and will host a series of educational activities including lectures on agriculture, bee-keeping and healthy nutrition. Some of the topics include how to store vegetables and fruits, and planting mini gardens.

There will also be various recreational activities for all ages. The festival is a great family outing and has a hospitality area where there is local home-made delicacy on offer besides traditional tea and coffee.
