Australian town 150th anniversary celebration found to be three years late

(MENAFN) Following local authorities' discovery of being three years past due in celebrating the 150th anniversary of an Australian town, preparations for the festivities were facing an obstruction.

Celebrations plans that were in progress for next year by the town of Charleville in Queensland to rejoice its official recognition in 1868, or so was the year locals thought to be accurate. A state records check however found that the momentous event had in fact come to pass in 1865.

The discovery had been a great disappointment, Mayor Annie Liston said. She informed the BBC "we put so much budget towards it, then we found out it was gone. It was the biggest shock to all of us, I can tell you, we were all prepared to have this big shindig next year and [the date] is not even correct."
