Qatar- Expert: Exercise can prevent cardiovascular diseases

The Sport Science Program at Qatar University College of Arts and Sciences (QU-CAS) recently organised a symposium titled 'Exercise and Physical Activity as Prevention and treatment for Cardiovascular Diseases.
The symposium aimed to bring academic researchers together to share the latest outcomes in the area of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and CVD-risk factors among Qatari people, and to highlight the role of exercise and physical activity in the prevention and treatment of CVD.
It also aimed to explore an update of exercise-based rehabilitation for coronary disease in the State of Qatar, as well as other determinants of cardiovascular health such as nutrition.
Speakers at the event were QU Vice-President for Medical and Health Sciences and Dean of QU College of Medicine (CMED) Dr Egon Toft, Assistant Professor at QU College of Health Sciences (CHS) Department of Public Health Dr Karam Turk-Adawi, Assistant Professor at CAS Sport Science Program Dr Georges Jabbour, Assistant Professor at CHS Department of Human Nutrition Dr Vijay Ganji, and CAS Academic Advisor Dr Hassan Abdel-Aziz.
They discussed a wide range of issues related to the advantages of implementing a Telerehabilitation program at the home of patients who suffer from heart failure, the cardiac rehabilitation programs around the globe, the role of physical exercise as a polypill to prevent and manage almost every chronic disease, the importance of Vitamin D, and more.
Dr. Georges Jabbour said: 'This symposium is a significant opportunity to bring together the Sport Science Program with our current and potential collaborators such as the College of Health Sciences, the College of Medicine and Aspetar, as well as outstanding researchers and physiologists.
