India- Energy efficiency is a positive gain for MSMEs and it needs to be replicated by the sector: TERI Director General

(MENAFN- KNN India) Energy efficiency is a positive gain for MSMEs and it needs to be replicated by the sector: TERI Director General New Delhi, Nov 14 (KNN) The Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) in the country need to replicate the energy efficient methods that in return is likely to yield positive gains for the sector, Ajay Mathur, Director General of TERI said.

Mathur spoke to KNN on the sidelines of the recently held National summit to promote energy efficiency organized by BEE (Bureau of Energy Efficiency).

When asked about the efficient technologies which can be easily adopted by MSMEs, the Director said that that BEE and TERI had put together guidelines for various sectors on energy efficient technologies like efficient motors, boilers and furnaces.

He added the problem is small size of equipment used by MSMEs in India which needed to be designed

To the question of the high upfront cost and no visible returns in adopting the technology the director answered that adopting the technologies is not expensive because the payback period is around 3 years , the problem is that MSMEs prefer increasing their market share rather than adopting the energy efficient technologies.

He further said that the financing and the guarantee of efficiency savings should be provided to the MSMEs at the same time for successful large scale implementation of energy efficiency techniques. (KNN/AG)
