A citizens' forum named APLI (A port Lands Initiative) Mumbai, with the help of documents accessed through RTI, concluded that it is not feasible for the government to carry on with the construction of the upcoming Shivaji memorial worth Rs. 3,600crore.

According to their report, tender conditions of the project are almost impossible to be met with.

Education 25 Professors from TISS face unemployment

Approximately 25 members from 3 centres of the Tata Institute of Social Sciences are facing the prospect of unemployment as the centres are yet to receive their extension from the University Grants Commission (UGC).

On 24th March, the professors were notified that their last working day would be 31st March.

Each centre has a term-life of 5 years.

Shiv Sena Shiv Sena MP Ravindra Gaikwad let off with a warning

According to sources, Gaikwad most likely faces no action at the party-level.

Weather Mercury crossed 35 degrees Celsius on Sunday

Indian Meteorological Department's Santacruz observatory on Sunday recorded a maximum temperature of 35.3 degrees Celsius, 2.5 degrees above the norm.

The minimum temperature recorded was 22.2 degrees Celsius, 0.4 degrees above normal.

According to weathermen, temperatures are expected to be on the higher side most days this week.

Moisture levels, however, remained low at 65% and 39% at Colaba and Santacruz respectively.

Crime Mumbai constable charged for rape and blackmail

Mumbai Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a constable named Tushar Tirude for sexually assaulting a Class IV BMC employee.

The victim had filed her complaint last month, alleging that Tirude raped her numerous times on gunpoint.

The 29-year-old survivor's allegations were proved right by the Crime Branch's women's cell, after which Tirude was charged.

Electricity BEST electricity tariffs soon to be cheapest in Maharashtra

According to regulations provided by the Maharashtra Electricity Regional Commission (MERC), power supply provided by BEST will be the cheapest in the state starting 1st April onwards.

BEST, which had Maharashtra's highest tariffs will now cut down their prices by 7%.

As BEST supplies electricity only to the island city, South Mumbai's electricity bills will be cheaper than those of the suburbs.

Environment Mumbai has had 63 cases of mangrove destruction in 2017

According to data provided by the state government, Mumbai has witnessed 63 cases of mangrove destruction in the first 3 months of the year.

Of these, 57 have been on private land (under the revenue department) and 6 have been on government land (forest department).

No responsible persons have been arrested in any of the cases.
