International events such as the Paris International Book Fair bring together "devotees of culture and knowledge", His Highness Dr Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, has said.
He was speaking during the launch of the French version of his Book Under the Flag of Occupation in Paris on Friday.
He said the book is one in a series of books that have not yet been translated into French such as The Conflict between Power and Trade in the Gulf, Al Qawasim and the British Aggression, Tale of A City and Sharjah Between Protection and Colonialism. He expressed hope that the whole collection would be translated into French at the Paris International Book Fair next year.
Dr Sheikh Sultan stressed on his passion for culture and his "association with all that nurtures the mind and serves humanity". He said his personal library is rich in French books "which express passion for culture especially those which dealt with Egypt and its architectural, historical and environmental treasures as well as its humanitarian, literary, thought and artistic legacy.
"We hope that true cooperation returns between the various cultures to serve humanity instead of personal or regional interests," he said.
The launching ceremony also saw a short documentary on the various topics of the book.
Former French minister of culture Rono Dufabre presented a detailed reading of the book, underlining the strong relations between the UAE and France.
He said that the book shows Dr Sheikh Sultan's "deep friendship with history". He said Dr Sheikh Sultan has a strong vision that is based on peace, respect of law, tolerance and cultural diversity. "These elements will make Sharjah a regional capital for culture and art."
Dufabre also highlighted and hailed the high narrative accuracy of the historical details and events that Dr Sheikh Sultan has dealt with in his book Under the Flag of Occupation.
