Jordan- Senate begins debating budget bill

Amman, Jan. 24 (Petra)--The Senate started on Tuesday debating the 2017 draft laws for the state budget and the budgets of independent government units.

During the session, which was chaired by Senate President Faisal Al Fayez and attended by Prime Minister Hani Mulki, Rapporteurs of the Senate's Financial and Economic Committee Senator Umayya Toukan read the committee's reports and recommendations on the two bills.

The committee called for taking decisions that would facilitate the process of providing support to those who deserve it. It also reaffirmed its previous recommendations related to budget, mainly the economic impact of capital projects.

It highlighted the need to avoid measures that affect foreign reserves, and stressed the importance of increasing tourism income and addressing tax evasion.

The committee urged closer cooperation with the private sector to overcome obstacles facing it to increase the sector's competitiveness and help it access targeted markets.

It also affirmed the importance of reaching solutions to the decline in agricultural exports, shortage of laborers in this sector and address problems facing the agricultural sector.

The committee also called for finding solutions to problems facing the transport sector and remove obstacles facing the implementation of renewable energy projects.
