Jordan achieves 2020 renewable energy strategy 2020 objective, minister


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Abu Dhabi, Jan.17 (Petra) -- Jordan has achieved its desired goal of supporting renewable energy sources in the total energy mix by10 percent by 2020, said Energy Minister Ibrahim Saif .

Speaking during a session of the Seventh Meeting of International Renewable Energy Agency (IRNA) being held in Abu Dhabi, the minister said that Jordan has reached its objective before the due date, thanks to the development of a legislative environment that attracted investment in the field of renewable energy over the past few years. "Jordan's improved legislation has helped lure a number of renewable energy projects, with a total capacity of 1,300 megawatt (MW), he further explained.

The minister added that these planned achievements are in line with the "Jordan 2025 A National Strategy and Vision," the minister added.

Following the session Sail stressed in a press statement the importance of the meeting, as a platform that brings together decision makers, businessmen to exchange expertise, implement investment projects and tackles renewable energy-related challenges facing the world.

In another session, assistant secretary general in the Ministry of Energy, Ziad Jibril, briefed the participants on the expansion of Jordan's renewable energy projects, highlighting the investment climate in this sector the Kingdom has developed. The International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) is an intergovernmental organization aims to promote adoption and sustainable use of renewable energy. It was founded in 2009 with headquarters in Abu Dhabi.

The seventh session of (IRENA) tackles a number of strategic and programmatic discussions around central themes of the agency's work and mandate. These discussions are designed to promote, exchange of information and best practices among members and experts to increase the uptake of renewable energy, taking advantage of the annual sessions of the Assembly as the global cooperation platform in the field of renewables.

The Assembly brings together government officials from over 150 countries, representatives of private sector, civil society and international organizations. The president of the seventh session is Italy, while the Dominican Republic, Indonesia, Jordan, and Morocco serve as vice-presidents. S Kh
