DUBAI, 26th October, 2016 (WAM) -- The Dubai Maritime City Authority, DMCA, has launched its new 'Maritime Dubai' initiative. Placed under the management of the Dubai Maritime Cluster Office, the initiative seeks to sustain the local maritime sector's achievements and lay the foundations for a new phase of development based on its ambitious vision to promote Dubai as a maritime gateway to regional and global trade.

Sultan bin Sulayem, Chairman of Dubai Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation, and President of DMCA, said, "Maritime Dubai reflects our success and leadership in creating an excellent and integrated maritime sector to push for Dubai's economic and cultural ambitions in accordance with the vision and directions of Vice President, Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. Through this new initiative, we are moving closer to our goals of making the emirate a key maritime centre for global trade and consolidating its role as a major player in the international maritime economy."

The Maritime Dubai initiative serves as one of the cornerstones for establishing an independent and unique local maritime sector. It provides an integrated platform that incorporates all elements and components of Dubai's maritime clustering, including ship owners, ports, docks, logistics, arbitration, maritime classification, licensing, financing, maritime training, and maritime policies. Additionally, the initiative facilitates coordination among government entities, national, regional and international maritime organisations, and free zones.

Maritime Dubai also focuses on encouraging members to engage in new businesses through trade promotion, attracting more foreign ship owners, operators and shippers to Dubai, promoting the emirate as a global centre for maritime training, facilitating communication between all stakeholders and organising international events to keep all stakeholders up-to-date with the latest maritime developments and information.
